MOREHOUSE BASEBALL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

Morehouse Baseball is more than a team — it is a brotherhood built on tradition, excellence, and the relentless pursuit of greatness. As one of the few HBCU baseball programs in the country, we proudly represent the legacy of Morehouse College both on and off the field.

The Morehouse College Maroon Tigers baseball program has a storied history dating back to 1890, making it one of the oldest collegiate baseball programs at a historically Black institution in the nation. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, the Maroon Tigers compete in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) at the NCAA Division II level.

The SIAC itself holds deep ties to Morehouse College. On December 30, 1913, representatives from several institutions gathered at Morehouse College to establish the conference, which has grown into one of the most respected athletic conferences among HBCUs. More than a century later, the SIAC continues to be a pillar of Black collegiate athletics, and Morehouse remains a proud founding member.

OUR MISSION

The Morehouse Baseball Alumni Association (MBAA) exists to rally alumni, devoted fans, and philanthropic individuals who share a passion for Morehouse athletics. Our mission is to support the growth and sustainability of the Morehouse College baseball program by providing resources for equipment, travel, uniforms, and facility upgrades — all of which directly impact the student-athlete experience.

Our student-athletes are scholars, leaders, and competitors who embody the spirit of determination and resilience. With limited resources but unlimited heart, the Maroon Tigers continue to compete with pride, develop future leaders, and uplift the community through service and sportsmanship.

Aligned with the primary educational mission of Morehouse College, we are dedicated to developing men with disciplined minds who will lead lives of leadership, service, and self-realization. The baseball program serves as a vehicle for that mission, instilling values of teamwork, perseverance, and excellence in every student-athlete who wears the maroon and white.

A LEGACY OF EXCELLENCE

The Morehouse baseball program has produced remarkable student-athletes who have excelled both on the diamond and in their professional careers. The program's most celebrated alumnus is Donn Alvin Clendenon (Class of 1956), the only former Maroon Tiger to reach the Major Leagues. Clendenon played as a first baseman in MLB from 1961 to 1972 and is best known for his performance in the 1969 World Series, where he earned the World Series Most Valuable Player Award while helping lead the legendary "Miracle Mets" to an upset victory over the Baltimore Orioles.

At Morehouse, Clendenon was a twelve-time letterman across football, basketball, and baseball. His connection to the college ran deep — upon arriving on campus in 1952, a recent Morehouse graduate named Martin Luther King Jr. volunteered to serve as his "big brother" and mentor. Clendenon was inducted into the SIAC Hall of Fame in 2014 and remains enshrined in the Morehouse College Den of Honor.

The tradition of excellence continues today. In 2025, junior shortstop Elijah Pinckney made history as the first NCAA Division II player ever selected to participate in the prestigious HBCU Swingman Classic, further elevating the profile of Morehouse Baseball on the national stage. That same year, the Maroon Tigers competed in the inaugural Minority Baseball Prospects HBCU Final 4 tournament, showcasing the program's growing competitiveness and commitment to excellence.

THE PROGRAM TODAY

Today, the Morehouse Maroon Tigers baseball team continues to build on its proud legacy. Competing in the SIAC, the program fields talented student-athletes from across the country who are committed to academic achievement and athletic excellence. The team plays its home games at Gresham Park in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

The program is part of the broader Morehouse College athletic department, which sponsors varsity sports including baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, and track and field. As an NCAA Division II institution and founding member of the SIAC, Morehouse upholds the highest standards of intercollegiate competition while prioritizing the holistic development of its student-athletes.

Every gift to the Morehouse Baseball Alumni Association, no matter the size, brings us closer to building a championship-caliber program that reflects the excellence of Morehouse College. Together, we can take Morehouse Baseball to new heights and empower the next generation of Maroon Tigers.
